Global Mission Prayer Update: June 20th
In this week’s global prayers, we lift up:
Pray for all those affected by last week’s mass shooting in Orlando, Fla. Pray for healing for those injured. Pray for comfort for family and friends of the 49 people who were killed. Pray for the family of the perpetrator. Pray for this country’s LGBT and Muslim communities, targets of hate and discrimination in this moment and each day. Pray for courage and perseverance, at all levels of church, government, and community, to put an end to all factors that led to this tragedy.
Pray for the volunteers serving on the Children’s Disaster Services (CDS) critical response team in Orlando. The team is serving in the Family Assistance Center set up for families of those who were killed in the mass shooting and for survivors and their families. The team has created a safe and welcoming place for children to play and for mourners of all ages to converse and unwind.

Pray for this week’s two senior high workcamps. Twenty-one workcampers will spend a week in Knoxville, Tenn., serving those living in poverty or homelessness. The participants will learn about the current housing issues in Knoxville and how organizations assist the people affected. Pray that the workcampers will be touched by the lives of those they encounter. Pray for them to come together as a community of believers to grow and shine their blaze of holiness.
Twenty-four participants will be hosted by the Castañer Church of the Brethren in Puerto Rico. They will help build a church parking lot and paint church buildings. They will also spend time worshipping and fellowshipping with members of the Castañer congregation. Pray for the relationships that will form between the Castañer church and the workcampers. Pray that they will learn from each other and come together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Praise God for the inauguration of new leadership of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria). New leaders fill the positions of president, vice-president, spiritual advisor, and general secretary. Pray that these leaders be blessed with wisdom, vision, and safety as they guide the Nigerian church.
